repair & restoration
White fillings are an aesthetically pleasing and functional solution in the event of tooth decay in children and adults. Whether the tooth has recently suffered from decay or whether you want to replace an unsightly amalgam filling, our dentists are experts at restoring teeth with attractive and durable composite white fillings.
As dentists we believe prevention is definitely better than cure and we will always encourage you to look after your teeth with expert guidance. We recommend regular routine examinations and dental hygiene visits to all our patients in order to avoid tooth decay.
Composite bonding uses tooth-coloured resin to repair chips, cracks or broken teeth or to improve the proportions of your smile if you feel self-conscious about gaps or the shape of your teeth. The resin is sculpted to the desired shape as it sets so that it covers and fills your damaged teeth.
The composite resin will be blended and layered to match the colour and character of your teeth in a seamless manner to ensure a natural result so that no one will be able to tell the difference.
Inlays & onlays
Inlays and onlays are two types of restorations that your dentist may suggest if you have a cavity in your tooth that needs to be filled. An inlay is a small filling that fits into the biting surface of a tooth while an onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited to bigger cavities. Nowadays, tooth-coloured porcelain is usually used which gives the restored tooth a more natural look.
Inlays and onlays can be made in a dental laboratory with the help of dental impressions taken of your teeth or made the same-day at the dental practice using a special milling machine known as CEREC.
A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain that is bonded on top of your own tooth. Depending on each patient, we can adjust the shape of the veneers to make your teeth look longer and or closer together. You can have just one veneer or a whole set, known as a Smile Makeover.
For a single stained tooth we can also match the precise shade of porcelain to give it a lighter appearance and fit in with the surrounding teeth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps or if one tooth is slightly out of position from the rest of your teeth when braces are not an option.
A crown is a dental restoration used to fix broken teeth, or those weakened by decay or large fillings. A white crown is usually the preferred option if you want to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile and make the affected tooth match your other teeth.
Following Root Canal Therapy, if too much of the tooth is damaged, you will sometimes need a crown to cap the restored tooth, allowing you full natural oral functionality. Hitchin Dental is proud to offer Cerec Same Day Crowns which means great results in just 1 day – find out more here.
